How might the audience influence the rhetoric?? (Hamlet)?
Hamlet:?Now I am alone.
Oh, what a rogue and peasant slave am I!
Is it not monstrous that this player here,
But in a fiction, in a dream of passion,
Could force his soul so to his own conceit
That from her working all his visage wanned,
Tears in his eyes, distraction in his aspect,
A broken voice, and his whole function suiting
With forms to his conceit? And all for nothing

Why has no one even today, really searched for King Solomon's Lost Mines?
Better know in E.R. Burroughs Tarzan books as Opar and in other books as the lost cities of Ophir

because the passage to where these mines are found is full of traps and i think no one born of a woman can make a to and fro adventure

Because those books are fiction. Just Fantasy nothing more. Good stories. Kind of like the Indiana Jones movies. People believed those stories were real too.

how do you know no one searched for king sol’s mines ??? i did ? and i found it too… which is why no one else who searched for it found it…

They talk about it in the movie Congo too. That was a good movie.

The same reason no one is searching for Harry Potter or the starship "Enterprise", because it’s fiction, created by H. Rider Haggard in 1885.

In all seriousness, Has anyone really thought about this?
I have reprinted this question for those that may have missed it. If you have already then kindly just ignore and be at peace. Thanks.

Now for the question.

While everyone is nick picking and fighting with each other as to the question if God exist, or if Jesus did walk the earth, If the bible is true. Has anyone stopped to think about actually picking up the bible, and reading the whole thing, understanding that everything it speaks of has happened in the history of man, How The Old testament speaks of what things were back before Jesus, and that with the crucifixion of Jesus a New covenant and set of rules and ways of receiving God’s grace? Is it possible that those that squabble amongst themselves aren’t listening or hearing The truth, and coming up with their own truths? Seriously think about it, before you answer. Let’s see how many actually hear what I am saying, which God is saying, which Jesus is saying. How many will really listen and how many will turn from the truth and their own salvation, for the price of being self?

I have read it many times….thanks. And each time I do, it makes less and less sense to me.

I wonder why jesus could never heal an amputee, or why he thought disease was caused by "demons", when, as an all knowing god, he would have known about germ theory.

"How The Old testament speaks of what things were back before Jesus, and that with the crucifixion of Jesus a New covenant and set of rules and ways of receiving God’s grace?"

This is extremely offensive, untrue, and pagan with its human sacrifice.

Yeah…I read it. I wish more than 10 percent of Christians would. There would be a lot fewer of them.
Gazoo | Feb 07, 2010

Seriously, thank you all the same but god does not exist and I really have thought about it.
MaidinKent | Feb 07, 2010

you are actually asking people to accept that the bible is "living document" and that the ideals and morals set down in its pages are just as acceiptable today as thousands of years ago? gosh. i guess you want people to actually read the thing with an open mind, too.
bear | Feb 07, 2010

I am a Christian and I have read it twice. It will be three times before the end of 2010. There is more needed than just reading though. Reflecting and studying the Word is important too.
Jim | Feb 07, 2010

I have read the Bible and the Book of Mormon and the book about the Flying Spaghetti monster. All those books sound like stories. Just stories. Sure it would be great to have a loving God and the idea that Jesus walked among us and died for us….it sounds good, but sounding good does not mean Truth.
Side note: The Bible says that God created the earth in six days…what about million year old fossils? -the Bible was written for people, so 6 days is literally 6 24 hour days(Nuff said).
Michael | Feb 07, 2010

Wow you have really lost it if you think because you can pick up a book and read it that it is true . Have you ever read Pinochio ? If so then how long is your nose ? How can you call those writings the truth ? The truth is something either known or self evident and all you believers profess that you have faith that it might be true or you believe it might be true , never do you know for sure .
Tom | Feb 07, 2010

people can’t believe in something they consider fantasy

they have to be called by god to understand it and believe

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

since they can not believe they make up their own truth
God's servant | Feb 07, 2010

I’ve argued and I’ve read parts of it but not the whole thing. I have to say about 70 – 60% read and 30 – 40 percent not read. The irony is that, Atheists like myself actually do read the bible sometimes. Not for religious purposes but as training to get ready for creationists to attack them. If they never do, atheists will never lash back cause there’s nothing to lash back at.

Lawl, God’s grace…if you understand what that meant, I will personally give you a cookie.
DarkZerker | Feb 07, 2010

Yes I have read the whole thing, confirmed Lutheran and am currently studying it at university. Maybe you should read it from an objective viewpoint and look at it exactly for what it is – not truth, savage, barbaric in the OT and self-contradicting in the NT. Unfortunately people back in the days of Constantine were not very educated when it came to canonizing a flawless book. The more you study the book in context the more you realize how people today just choose to believe what they want to believe.
Nadine Ne vem | Feb 07, 2010

You will find that there are far fewer Christians that have read the entire Bible than atheists: The reason I know the Bible is mostly plagiarized material from other cultures comes from my studies in ancient near eastern writings as well as all biblical material.

Ignorance among Christians/Muslims is far greater than amongst atheists; your attempt at leading is an attempt of the blind trying to tell the one’s with 20/20 vision what is real!
Gnosisquest | Feb 07, 2010

I picked up the Bible a long time ago when I was still a Methodist. The more I read, the less sense it all made, until finally I had to put it down again.

The elements in the Bible fall into two categories. Some are simply histories of specific figures of some interest to the people of that time and region. I have no particular problem with the stories in that context.

The elements that give me problems are examples of what happens when ignorant, superstitious, but curious shepherds tried to explain phenomena they could not have understood without years of schooling of a type that didn’t exist back then. Since they believed in magic and had to come up with some kind of explanation, the created a magician called God. Then, anything they couldn’t explain any other way caused them to say "Goddidit."

Considering all the pantheons that Christians have rejected and the ones I have rejected, there is really only one difference between my brand of atheism and your brand of Christianity. I have rejected one more God than you did. That’s it, that’s the difference.
The_Doc_Man | Feb 07, 2010

A book without any corroborating evidence is just a book. Nothing more.

The world is full of such books.
Andrew H | Feb 07, 2010

With all the respect, yes, I have read it and I still read it. However, I don’t really think the Bible alone holds The Truth. Most of the Bible was referred to a people and a time that have nothing to do with us and our times right now. Reading for reference is one thing. Reading and taking it as the whole truth is something totally different. I am sorry, but there is more to know beside the Bible.

Now, I ask you, would you close your Bible for a while and just think for yourself? Did you ever talk to God, just you and Him, and dare to ask Him to show you the truth? To show you the way?

Peace!
Janet Reincarnated | Feb 07, 2010

Wow. You make even less sense than the Bible. I didn’t think that was possible.

Look, I know you really want Jesus to be real and loving, but he just isn’t. Don’t use the incoherent, idiotic, unrealistic Bible as any kind of truth, because it’s not. I’m sorry to break it to you.

Also, please don’t automatically assume that because you’re supporting God, that he has your opinion. "What I am saying, which God is saying, which Jesus is saying". Just listen to yourself! You sound crazy. I’m listening to what you’re saying, but it’s gibberish.

I think you need to just read through what you’ve written – seriously, do it – but from an atheist’s point of view. I’ve asked my share of questions, and once I got one deleted. I read through it as many times as I could, from a Christian’s point of view, to see if I’d offended anyone, and I think that helped a lot. Just… try and see the world from our perspective, and you’ll find it makes a lot more sense.

I know this won’t change your mind – but I’m just answering the question. Yes, I have thought about this. And I’ve rejected it. I’m just telling you where us atheists are coming from.
Destrii | Feb 07, 2010

HIV blood on counter and small cut…?
I used hand sanitizer to wipe up a few spots of blood of the counter at work yesterday, there was a small cut on the other side of my hand from where I was cleaning up the blood and I didn’t notice it till I was rubbing on more hand sanitizer and it burned the wound due to the alcohol. The wound is kind a small cut that was broken because of dry skin. The wound isn’t deep enough to cause bleeding so it wasn’t my blood.

I used a piece of paper, that we use for wrapping glasses and what not, and the paper was soaked with hand sanitizer after I was wiped up the blood.

Is there a possible chance of me actually getting a disease from this even though I used anti-bacterial items on it and not directly contacting my hands with the blood? Like I said the wound is not on the finger tips, just on the other side of it.

I had no idea how long the blood was on the counter, nor did I clean this off a person so it wasn’t "new"/fresh blood. HIV is very sensitive I guess from what I heard from my sister (recently a pharmacist who dealt with a lot of blood)

I know that HIV barely lasts minutes after hitting oxygen so I’m not really worried too much about that one. The blood had already began to dry and it wasn’t large amounts, the kind of streaks on counters as though the hand was just brushing against the counter, not like a pool of blood.

I have spoken to a nurse about this and the chances she said were minimal, basically a slim to none chance. I just want to hear the opinions of others to see if I can put myself at ease.

Also, I did not have any blood on my hands at all. I wiped down the countertop with the piece of paper before and then threw away the paper. I don’t remember having any contact with the piece of paper after it cleaned off the blood nor did I see red on the paper after I wiped down the blood with the hand sanitizer. I noticed the small cut (smallest cut ever literally it had not bled and the skin above it was still attached. I just noticed a stinging pain after I reapplied hand sanitizer)

Am I safe?

It was some customer’s blood. I had no idea where it came from or what customer had been bleeding. I just randomly saw it while I was helping a customer and then when that customer left another customer came. I took care of it after that customer left so it could have been anyone’s blood.

would the blood be infectionous had it touched me with the piece of paper? The piece of paper wiped on the countertop after I dumped hand sanitizer on it. After I wiped down the counter, no blood smeared and it dried within a minute or so. I don’t remember touching the wet paper to the back of my hand where the cut is. My paranoid hysteria (yeah I’m using that word) is tricking me with these "what if" questions. I don’t think I would wipe my hand with the paper. I definitely didn’t touch the blood before I wiped down the counter with the hand sanitizer. So the blood didn’t directly touch my hand before I wiped down the counter.

Did the alcohol from the sanitizer kill anything?
I don’t know if there was actually HIV in this or rather Hepatitis, I’m just freaking out.

lisetn to the nurse. the chance is minimal. quit thinking about it. yes theres a small chance that you’ve gotten it, but dont worry about it. you probally have not gotten hiv. but after 6monthes, go in to get a hiv test. it can take up to a year after getting hiv that it would show up in a test. next time you see blood, put on gloves.
B | Feb 05, 2010

You can’t even know for sure that it’s blood. One of the customers may have just eaten something with tomato sauce or whatever and gotten a little bit on their hands. Stop worrying :)

What are some good controversial topics for my eighth grade project?
I have to write a five page argumentative essay and have a physical project. Here are some options I already have
1. Legalization of Euthanasia
2. Lethal VS. Non-Lethal weapons
3. Are Non-Lethal Weapons Really Non-Lethal? (because they can still kill people)
4. World religion
the only two I have even considered are *world religion (but that would be kind of hard to argue about)* and legalization of euthanasia please help me!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

What is to argue about world religion? You have to be way more specific about that because it can be taken a lot of different ways.

How about, legalization of marijuana, effects of digital downloads (legal and not), Wal*mart-good or bad?, or drawbacks to CFL light bulbs (the new curly kind)?
